Dr. James Mason, author of the new book series Disney Connections & Collections (published by Theme Park Press), joins Notably Disney to talk about the first volume centered on movies. James relays how his dissertation provided him with the foundation of exploring adult audiences' perceptions of and connections to Disney films, helping lead to the creation of this book that highlights nearly 400 Disney films. James discusses the monumental task of cataloguing information about all of these movies in the book, as well as the insights he learned about what adult audiences most enjoy (and take issue with) in Disney movies.

Understandably, there is a wealth of content to cover. In this special first part of a two-part edition of Notably Disney, musician and film buff David Glantz joins me to honor the man behind the music.

Travel back in time to the 1964/1965 New York World's Fair with me as we cover both a music review of the fantastic CD box set called "Walt Disney and the 1964 New York World's Fair" and a review of "Yesterday's Tomorrow: Disney's Magical Mid-Century" by Don Hahn. I also make note of some worthy academic journal articles on Carousel of Progress and it's a small world that you can check out for free. See end of show notes.
However, the main feature is an engaging discussion on the "Yesterday's Tomorrow" book with guests Courtney Guth and Emily McDermott, co-hosts of the Book of the Mouse Club podcast. We talk about a number of topics featured in the book, including Disney technology, Mineral King, Mary Blair, early Disneyland, Disney's foray into television, and, of course, the 1964 New York World's Fair.

This episode of Notably Disney features a book review of the new title "Top Disney: 100 Top Ten Lists of the Best of Disney, from the Man to the Mouse and Beyond," written by Christopher Lucas. This is a fantastic and fun read that will certainly prompt you to want to revisit some favorite Disney films and TV shows, as well as perhaps cause you to discover new finds in the Disney library.
Chris then joins me on the show as I find out more about the roots of the book, how he researched the full library of Disney films and shorts, and the role of the late Dave Smith of the Walt Disney Archives in assisting him with this major endeavor. As you may imagine, Chris' familiarity with the history of Disney is quite impressive.

Let's get to the details of this soundtrack review in a snap! In this special bonus episode of Notably Disney, Brett reviews the soundtrack for the culmination of 11 years' worth of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Avengers: Endgame. The score, composed by Alan Silvestri, is some of his finest work in years. Brett deconstructs each of the tracks from the Hollywood Records release in this review. Among the standouts in Avengers: Endgame are "Becoming Whole Again," "In Plain Sight," "Whatever It Takes," "Portals," and "End of Main."
Alan Silvestri, best known for his work for films like Back to the Future and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, is responsible for many previous hits from the MCU, including Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel's The Avengers, and last year's sensation Avengers: Infinity War.
